I’ve produced electronic music under the name Tornicane for nine years, and over the last few years, maintained around 9,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and had releases on all major platforms. I produced, arranged and mastered over 50 tracks in genres like future bass and progressive house, totaling 2M+ streams on Spotify.
Marketing
I started implementing various data-driven marketing strategies in 2024, with the goal of boosting my total amount of streams on Spotify, which resulted in a 66% increase in Spotify streams between 2023 and 2024. These strategies included playlist pitching and social media campaigns, but also included improvements on the ways in which I structured my songs from data analysis from my 2024 thesis. I was able to develop a framework to predict popularity of a song based off of analyzing 220 songs. The factors I analyzed included genre, label, total Spotify streams, lifetime in months, standardized popularity, tempo, duration, length of breaks, LUFS and average dynamic ranges, and also various qualitative variables.
